Where did the name The Blue Pages come from?

James: It’s kind of a lame story, but I needed some phone numbers so I stole a neighbors yellow pages. I just kind of thought “why is it called the yellow pages?” Why not red, or green, or blue. And then I thought the blue pages sounded like a cool name. It just kind of stuck.

I was going to ask if that was your inspiration, but I didn’t know if it would be that simple... Ok, Who are some bands that really inspire you? Whether it be local or mainstream…

Dave: Well a couple of bands that really inspire me are Minus The Bear, Tall as Lions, Beruit… Really catchy stuff. Fall Out Boy is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine.

Patrick: Well, a little Pete Wentz never hurt nobody.

Dave: Well yea, look at me! (He nervously chuckles a bit at this point.) But yea, I’m a music student, so I try to find inspiration from anywhere and everywhere.

James: For me: Radiohead, JT… That’s the man right there! Usher, Rascal Flats. I dunno, I just like to get down, you know?

I do know, so what are your thoughts on music today, compared to ten years ago? and to follow, do you like the direction it's heading?

Zac: Music Is always changing.... While music 10 years ago was amazing, the music today is just as fresh to us. It's the same as the music from the 50's 60's and 70's. It was drastically changing then and it's still changing today. Technology has improved, which has brought music to a whole new level, and we are always trying to adapt to the times. It's a great time for music.

James: I think music is always the same in the aspect that people got down 10 years ago, and there still going to get down today.

Dave: My thoughts are that music has entered a whole new era. 10 years ago I was “punk-in” it out with Rancid and No FX. it was a much harder world for musicians to enter, though much more rewarding. Now with Myspace, everyone gets a piece and only the strong survive. 10 years ago I was jamming out to the same stuff I listen to today. But with technology the whole playing field has changed. Music is full of surprises… sometimes the crappy bands get discovered, while the really good bands get  passed over. You just have to look harder these days because of music media being so over-saturated. As far as the direction that music is going, I really feel the electronic revolution beginning, and I am as pumped as always to hear what the future has in store.

So, for someone who has never heard you guys before, try to explain your sound.

James: Our sound is… You know when you go to the club and you hear that song that just makes you want to get down? That’s us right there!

Zac: We are an Indie Dance Rock band trying to have a good time. Whether your listening to our music on CD, or coming out to our show, you better be ready to get your dance on, because we will too!

Dave: Yea, also, we all have such different styles that we like to play so we try to do a combination of everything. We throw in a little Southern flare because James is from the south, We throw in a little Jersey rock. We try to mix it up. We even throw in a little bit of South American flavor at times too. Our goal is to come together and just try to produce the best pop indie rock that we can.

I gotta ask, because I need one cheesy question… What has been your biggest “Rockstar” Moment so far?

(Someone yells “Selling out!” Followed by them all laughing.)

I take it your talking about selling out a club… not selling out to “the man?”

Zac: Here’s the thing, We used to be really hardcore, really underground, and then we woke up one day and  we were like “You know what? I just want to write really good pop songs!” So if you consider that selling out, then yes, but it was a pretty defining moment for us as a band.

Ok, So ideally where do you all see your band going? Do you envision playing large arenas or do you like being more Indie and sticking to an underground fan base?

Zac: We want arenas! I guess as lame as that may sound to some people, we want to shoot for the moon.

James: I’m just tired of worrying about my rent check!

Zac: Exactly. I mean, we just want to make music that we enjoy and that hopefully lots and lots of other people enjoy as well. If it gets us to play in an arena, then great, but the music is our main goal and what follows is anyone’s guess.

If you could open for one Mainstream band, who would it be and why?

Zac: Lil Wayne; his flow is tight.

Dave: I would love to open for Broken Social Scene, or Jimmy Eat World, or maybe The Early November... it's way too hard to figure out, but any of those would be heaven for me.

James: Justin Timberlake, or Outkast, or Radiohead, or Dave Matthews… I can't decide either!

So I hear you are all in the studio recording some new material. Do you want to talk about that?

James: We are definitely in the studio! We hope to get a release out there mid-fall, but everyone is going to have to check out our Myspace for updates!

Ok, ok, give everyone your shameless Myspace page plug:

James: www.myspace.com/thebluepagesmusic

What can people expect from the new album? Anything you'd like to share with your fans?

James: The new album is going to be way different than our last, it is going to be dance party 2008 up in this bitch!

Zac: you know that feeling in your pants when you see a good looking person? Yeah it's just like that! We can tell you that it's called BEAR FIGHT. That should say enough right thurrrrrr.

Dave: Expect the new album to take off like a dog getting shot out of a cannon. There is no doubt in my mind it will leave you wanting more and more! The EP is called BEAR FIGHT. As for the fans, you guys are awesome, thanks for all the support!

To check out The Blue Pages live in action, check out their Myspace for concert updates. Don’t be afraid to talk to them either, they are usually in the crowd after their set and they love meeting new people. Look for James “getting down” on the dance floor… because if you couldn’t tell from the interview, he likes to do that a lot!
